A lot of people ask me about why I charge a Consultation Fee of $300. Employment Law is different from other areas of the law. For example, with a traffic accident case, a lawsuit can be filed shortly after the accident. So a number of attorneys provide free consultations to individuals because a decision on filing a lawsuit can be made shortly after.

For people with Employment Law issues, the situation is a lot more complicated. Employment law requires employees and former employees to follow a “process” or protocol in order to address their issues. The purpose of meeting with me is to find out where you are in that required process and what options you may have.

The consultation fee is to make sure that only people who are serious about pursuing a path that may result in a lawsuit meet with me. The fee is also based on my years of training and experience to help guide you to the next steps. You are getting the benefit of my real world experience in employment law and other areas of the law. That is why a Consultation Fee is required.

Evaluating the hazards of workplace bullying

On Behalf of | Aug 7, 2022 | Employment Law |

The process of creating a safer workplace environment is a goal that may continue to remain relevant for employers and employees alike. While companies and individuals in Hawaii may strive every day to achieve such a goal, issues such as workplace bullying still plague the halls of many work environments. Knowing some of the hazards of bullying could help shed much needed light on the subject and help all parties involved prepare to take a proactive approach to protect against such behavior.

Types and effects of bullying

Workplace bullying can come in numerous fashions, ranging anywhere from the constant berating of others to acts of coercion or intimidation. Frequent remarks intended to humiliate or embarrass one in front of others may also classify as a type of bullying. In some cases, acts of bullying may also come in the form of verbal threats or unfair criticisms, and any form of bullying could take a dire toll on the parties involved and could even act to create an unhealthy job atmosphere.

Studies indicate that those who are subjected to bullying at work may struggle to concentrate on tasks or make vital job decisions. The presence of such behavior could lead to high levels of stress and may act to reduce worker productivity overall. Similar issues could also affect the health of workers, potentially leading to issues with high blood pressure, anxiety attacks and even ulcers.

Confronting the issue

Unfortunately, workplace bullying remains a prevalent issue for many individuals, and dealing with such unjust treatment can be stressful and daunting under any scenario. Individuals in Hawaii who encounter similar issues might not always know their options or how best to confront the issues at hand, and they could consider speaking with an experienced attorney for advice on the best path to take. In doing so, a person may obtain much-needed guidance in protecting against such treatment and if necessary, aid in preparing to seek any restitution to which he or she may be entitled to receive.
